Wine Being Simple and Fun…
Bumping into friends in the grocery store, just days before our filming began; I was reintroduced to one of the major reasons I was creating my wine DVD. This bright and vibrant couple beamed as they leaned over their full cart of gourmet treats, and mused about how much they love wine, learning, and the thrill of trying wines that are “new territory to them.” (My kind of people, indeed)!

Wherever this couple went, and whoever they asked, the two became more confused (drunk on information practically) yet still without any wine, as they felt too overwhelmed to open their wallets. They hadn’t wanted a three hour Bordeaux history course. They didn’t want to know the six-thousand some odd chateau list, and spread, or the rating which some revered wine hero gave to every bottle. (They astutely acknowledged that whether someone else gave a certain sip that great “96 point” accolade, or even a glorious “100,” that this had nothing to do with what flavors they could count on in the said wine and whether the grape would be similar to their favorites).
What transpired, and in the smoked mackerel aisle of our area’s nicest grocery store that morning nonetheless, was something I encounter all the time. (A thirst, for simply the basics). “We just want a couple of names,” the pretty blonde explained, “as Tom’s job allows us some great business dinners and we want to have simply heard of those big costly Bordeaux wines, so we won’t appear gauche.” The woman had a point!
“But I am not interested in taking it to the level of becoming “knighted,” or knowing all about each top growth,” she continued, “I just love drinking wine and I want a few buzz words, some names, and some basic and simple styles or flavors, which are easy to remember, about a few Bordeaux wines. Moreover, I want someone to wet my palate so to speak, and get me EXCITED to try these wines and discover more about them on my own! I want to be made thirsty – not confused and made to feel that I’m a jerk if I don’t learn every single geographical fact about Bordeaux!”
There is nothing wrong, and in fact something very bright, beautiful, and attractive, about one’s conviction to skip the affected, elitist, and lengthy intricate detail, (which many wine snobs pontificate about when conducting tastings that take boredom to new blends), in the name of simply gulping in a few noteworthy sips about a wine genre.
For those who wish to drink in life, and with authentic, and simple wine suggestions – certain to raise your spirits – this DVD, “Sass From My Glass” is for you. It’s not an A to Z course, or curriculum in wine, nor a history course, or chemistry lesson in the yeast and sugar compounds and breakdowns of how wine is measured and made. It is all about FUN! Blending gratitude, attitude, and simple, easy to remember great tips about wine enjoyment, you are certain to be entertained, with this wine DVD. (Or so I most certainly hope)!
If you are that couple, whom I met in the grocery store, go pour a glass of your favorite wine (and have the bottle nearby, paired well with snacks you enjoy), and curl up with each other and with the comfort of “making it simple.” As those ‘little things’ in life, are so often the big important ones!
Cheers beautiful people! And please enjoy my wine DVD, “Sass From My Glass.” As I certainly enjoyed making it! Warm wishes, Laurie-Beth
